The o-rings were capable of catastrophic failure. Scientists and engineers knew this to be fact. The problem seemed to be, not in the rubber and the falling temperature of space, but rather in the propulsion of the forward momentum of the trip itself. As though astronauts were honeymooners, the first night of lying down within the marriage bed akin to seeing the stars so close one could feel the heat of each dying fire. The getaway car has a slow leak in the rear passenger side tire. Too much speed and you’ll suffer a blowout. Listen listen, slow down. We’ll get there. The moon and milky way can wait. They've waited a million years for us to touch down.

I'm always impressed by how quickly you turn around something! This could both serve as a prose poem or as a flash fiction piece, I think. Did you know there are actually a lot of magazines now taking flash fiction? Maybe you should check that out!

Thanks, A! I practice a lot of stream-of-consciousness...attempting to tap into that thin layer between. I didn't know that magazines are looking for flash fiction! Hmmm...I will have to research that. I'm not sure how I feel about the form as a viable offering.

Well, do what I do: read a sample issue or two, and if you would be happy to be in the company of those writers, submit.
