[sticky post] Welcome to Wonderland

In one way or another, I have kept a journal since age 12. I've kept an online journal called Musings since late 2002. My topics range from things that happen in my daily life to my thoughts on pop culture to my ponderings about everything from dreams to the secret thoughts of pets. In November 2007, I began mirroring it here, although I often included extras to this version, such as memes and quizzes. In February 2010, I stopped updating the original journal on my home page and instead started a writing journal there.

For some insight into who I am, read Intro to Alyce. For a guide to the many nicknames I use in my online journal, check out Who's Who in Musings.

The beautiful, sweet dog in one of my icons is Una, my best friend and nurse dog for nearly 11 years, who passed away on October 22, 2010. She was my inspiration, and she taught me how to be a better friend and mother; a better person. My son, Kung Fu Panda (KFP for short), benefits from all the caregiving skills I learned in those 11 years. My husband, The Gryphon, probably does, as well!

The goals I established when I first begin an online journal remain the same: this is a way to explore the tangential, the seemingly accidental observations many of us overlook but which may, ultimately, be where all life and all mystery hinges.

Just wanted to let you know I friended you. I enjoyed your work in LJ Idol, and found out that you are an AI fan as well!

Great! I'm adding you back.

I happened upon your journal while having a 'nosey' day reading friends of friends journals.

Hope you don't mind that I added you. :)

I don't mind at all. In fact, looking through your LJ, we seem to have a lot in common, so I've added you back.

Hello there :) I just wanted to say that after the post in Idol tonight, I decided to add you as a friend, if that's okay? I always enjoyed rivermirage's entries, and I have enjoyed the home game entries you also wrote, so I figured I'd like to add you!

Much-belated reply: you are more than welcome!

Hello! I added you, because I've always loved the thoughtful comments you leave, and because I was so incredibly flattered when I realized that you were rivermirage and had asked me to do an intersection round (even if it didn't work out) and it just seems that we have a bit in common.

Great! I've added you back. Your entries this year have certainly made competing against you a challenge! I've enjoyed them and have voted for you quite often.

Just hopping over to say hello, since I am going through the entries on the "Fur Face" CD and got to yours. I wanted to tell you I love your essays, especially the one about your grandfather.

Thank you! I'm putting the finishing touches on it now and hope to have it available in the first half of November.

You asked about Project Linus. It is a charity that organizes volunteers to make blankets and quilts that are given to children in need. There are chapters all over the U.S. An area coordinator takes in the donated blankets and sees that they get distributed to hospitals, grieving families, whatever. The blankets can be anything from baby to teen size. Fabrics like cotton, flannel, fleece or knitted or crocheted with yarn. Groups get together for "blanket days" and we stitch up kits and gab and eat. The name came from the Peanuts character of Linus and his blankie.

Thanks. Could be good to know for Christmas.

Well, not really. The quilts are not for sale. They are made and donated by volunteers and then given to kids in a hospital or who may have lost a parent or victim of a fire, etc.

Your little guy is an absolute doll!

I might have misunderstood, but it still sounds like a worthy charity to participate in at Christmastime or otherwise.

Sorry if I added to confusion in trying to explain.
If you have not yet read Team Jessie's entry, she writes all about Project Linus.

Hi! It's been too long. We need to catch up!
Jul. 19th, 2012 09:56 pm (UTC)
I'm not sure this went through before. I'm on my phone. Message me so we can talk about getting together.

Howdy! Thanks for the add. Makes me wonder what spawned it NOW, for all the time we've been following each other on Twitter and FB. :)

I tried to send you a private message, but just can't seem to find a way to do it. Weird.

I'd really love to send you a copy of my new YA book for a possible Wild Orchid review. Is that possible? If so, what format do you prefer?

Oct. 22nd, 2013 07:19 pm (UTC)
If you could send it as either a PDF or .MOBI file to wildvioletmagazine@yahoo.com, I should be able to take a look. I'd be happy to help.

You've always been one of my favorites, my dear.

And I agree with you completely. God is in the details, the tiny elusive moments that flit by us. If we don't take time to reflect, they simply disappear!

Awww, thanks! You, too! As a mom, I find myself noticing even more of the small details now, especially when I'm with my son. I need to do a better job of doing something with all those thoughts circulating in my brain.

Happy Birthday!
