The new short-term goal will be to do a revision of Section 1. In my rough draft, I focused on finding all the relevant portions of the dozen or so interviews I conducted and patching them together, with some basic transitions. Now, I've got to go back and add more meat to it.
This is the way I usually work, and it's what I do with LJ Idol (therealljidol), as well. I usually write a rough draft that sets down the basic ideas. Then I go back and "make it interesting." Or, if it's a humorous piece, I go back and "make it funny." The third and fourth pass are usually where I tighten and refine wording, or move and delete paragraphs/sections. That's the stage where I say, "I really like that paragraph, but it doesn't belong here" or "That sentence sums up what I mean to say, but the piece is more elegant without it. I can trust the reader to put the pieces together." By contrast, with regular blog entries, I seldom do more than just reread them once or twice, looking for places to refine wording, as well as for obvious errors.
