How to Get on a Reality TV Show

I wrote a guide to how to get on a reality TV competition show, based on years of watching those kinds of shows.

Is anyone watching "So You Think You Can Dance?", "The Voice," and "Platinum Hit"? I'm watching all three. SYTYCD has started out well this season; there's a lot of people I'd like to see perform in the Vegas rounds. "The Voice" is promising so far, but I'm wondering how the live shows will go. "Platinum Hit" was just... weak. Most of the songwriting failed to impress me, and I really don't understand where the judges are coming from or how these contestants were chosen. It couldn't have been simply based on songwriting ability.

I am watching The Voice, and some of the folks that they've put through I'm like, "uh, why?"

A few of the singers are really good, but some of the others that have made the cut I've been unimpressed by. I do like the theory behind the blind auditions, though, the the four team leaders are all pretty awesome in their own right.

I agree with you on all of this. The real test will be the live shows.

I'm watching SYTYCD. I love that show! I tried watching the first episode of Platinum Hit, but I couldn't get into it.

The song-writing was weak, I felt. And Kara as a judge was just boring.

I'm totally watching SYTYCD! I think I've seen every single episode, both American and Canadian :)

I'm interested in "The Voice" and "X-factor", but I've not seen either yet.

I wouldn't know how to watch the Canadian version. I guess it's on the Internet somewhere?

"The X Factor" is promising. And it's got Simon Cowell!

I'm just nervous that the live shows won't be as good as the audition and battle round shows have been.

The season 6 stage was eye-hurting. If it's the one I'm thinking of, they debuted it for the finale of season 5, and they had to rework some of the dances because the round shape of it made some of the performances difficult.

I'm not sure if they're going to bring back the "all-stars" as partners again this year. What did you think about that? It does eliminate the possibility of a good dancer getting eliminated because of a weak partner. There were some people who were partner-killers in the first several seasons. They kept ending up in the bottom and being spared by the judges.
