KFP and I surprised The Gryphon at work yesterday and took him to lunch, plus gave him a digital photo frame to display on his desk (with tons of pics of us). I set that up a week in advance by getting his boss in on it, asking him to tell The Gryphon that he had a working lunch that day. This was necessary to be sure he didn't go out to eat without me.
The pictures took a while to get together, since they were in different locations. I even had to pay for 40 minutes in a Kinkos Office, because none of our computers had functioning CD drives! The photos were bittersweet to look at: I was shocked to see how different I look now, compared to when The Gryphon and I were dating. Having a baby will do that to you, I guess. More incentive to keep up with my goal to increase exercise!
When we arrived at the office, I had the woman at the front desk tell The Gryphon that he had a delivery. As he saw me, his face lit up. "I'm your lunch meeting," I told him. Upon seeing me arriving, his boss said, "Well, I can go to lunch now." I waved at him and thanked him. Turns out, he'd gotten the entire office in on it, just to convince The Gryphon that the meeting was for real. My husband really has the best boss.
We were only a few minutes late for the reservation I'd made at a local bar/restaurant which features a seafood menu and also had a selection of kids' meals. The waitress seated us facing a big fish tank, much to KFP's delight. The service was a little slow, but the food was good. I could tell that the break was welcome to The Gryphon.
But the best Valentine's Day surprise took place later in the day. After The Gryphon came home from work, we were all gathered in the living room, with The Gryphon eating his dinner. KFP came up to me and told me "I love you" for the first time! He followed this with a big hug.
Best Valentine's Day ever.
The best Valentine's gifts don't cost a lot of money.
