Future Dedication for the Book of My Life

Special thanks for the egg
and squirming life that blended me
into being. My cells thank you
for lending me your parental code.

To all the authors who fed me
words, which I continue to mash
and worry in my mouth, blessings.
I hope you are flattered by my
attempts to spew them
into my own abstract masterpiece.

I never thought I'd thank
the taunters, whose attentions
bloated my eyesacs until they
overflowed. You made me
me, and that is something.

My teachers, how much I loved you,
both bad and good. Your
legacy lives in me. I am always
ready for pop quizzes.

To all the people who helped
unseen, who held my hand
or guided me through trouble, who
opened doors or bagged my bread,
I finally requite your caring.

For all others, too numerous
to mention -- the loved and lovers,
the friends and comrades --
you never faltered from
my thoughts. I should
have told you that more often.

I hope, of all I've done, a little
of the good I've known
will live on. In my words, in my
cells, in my memory.

So please, read on.

Thank you! The idea rolled around in my head for three days before materializing into words.

Usually my best stuff has simmered like that too. :)

I love when that happens. :)

It's a good thing I'd been musing about it, because I didn't get a chance to work on it until 30 minutes before deadline!

"To all the authors who fed me

Oh, so lovely. I love the gratitude that comes through here, and how many-faceted this piece is in reflecting the influences on us as artists and humans.

"I finally requite your caring." So beautiful!

The one word that stuck out for me was "eyesacs" - seemed more clinical than the rest of the verse there.

I really enjoyed reading this!
