NaPoWriMo: Day 10 - I Love You, I Hate You

As part of National Poetry Writing Month, I will be writing 30 poems in 30 days. I will try to write one each day, but if I miss a day or two, I will catch up on later days. Sometimes I will be following prompts; while other days will come from my own ideas.

I based today's poem on the prompt from, which was to write an "un-love" poem. I wrote a found poem using the classified ads in the "City Paper," under are published under the headline "I Love You, I Hate You."

I Love You, I Hate You
(from the City Paper)

1. Bus Love

You shook my hand and I
melted like butter. Can't stop
thinking about you. Hopelessly.
Helplessly. I don't know what
to do.

2. Boo Bear

The situation is
awful, but I'm so grateful.
Falling asleep in your arms
gives me solace. We'll keep
going 'till we have that fake
wedding in Vegas. The world
isn't against us.

3. Please

It's as shallow as virtual
reality. It's a trick. An illusion.
Love somebody
real now, present
in front of your face and body. Kiss them
like you are entering
a black hole. Succumb
to their soul. If fortune chances it,
we'll meet on the street. We'll be
free, and happy. Maybe that will
never happen.

4. To Professor X

You're bald and think
that makes you the Buddha.
Future lovers, beware: if a cat
is in the room, he'd rather be
intimate with it
than you. You were a lousy
lover and worse coworker. Grow
up. And that does not mean
I'm interested.

It will include poetry, essays and humor pieces about pregnancy, parenting and my creative, determined toddler, nicknamed Kung Fu Panda. Proceeds will go towards defraying the travel expenses for our upcoming trip to Illinois, where KFP will be a ringbearer in the wedding of a couple we regard as family. Help us make this the best trip of KFP's young life!
