While I was ecstatic about the result, I don't think there was a right or wrong decision about who should have won; they're both equally good in their own way (well, a draw would have been the right decision, but that wasn't going to happen!).

I was actually kind of bored with a lot of the show - my favourites were Caleb and Jena's opening medley and the judges' performance. I also liked the Sam-Phillip duet after Philip came on. Hopefully Sam was taking notes on How To Do It!

I confess I muted the sound after the first few notes of Ryan's performance! I probably should have done the same for the Aloe Blacc number; even if the boys had been totally scintillating it wouldn't have got me past my hatred of that song.

I didn't think that Aloe Blacc was a terribly great singer, actually. But compared to the off-key performances by the "Idol" guys, he was slightly better.

What's your issue with the song? The fact that it steals its hook from a much better song?

But yes, I agree that either Caleb or Jena would have been a good choice. The last time I felt that way was probably the battle of David Cook versus David Archuleta.

The Elton John/Bernie Taupin ripoff didn't get the song off to a good start with me (though I gather he has at least included the two of them in the author credits), but most of the hatred is due to the sheer repetitiveness of the lyrics coupled with the number of times I've heard the song. Now whenever I hear it I think "OK YOU'RE THE MAN, DAMMIT, NOW SHUT UP!!!!!"
