NaPoWriMo 4: Doing Laundry During a Pandemic

For National Poetry Writing Month today, I wrote a poem using alliteration, again based on the prompt I posted at Wild Violet: NAPOWRIMO 2020 - Prompt 4.

As you'll soon figure out, I primarily reused the initial consonants from the title -- D, L and P -- although I threw in a couple others, as well.

Doing Laundry During a Pandemic

My son's voice lilts through plaster, drifts
downwards to where I pile limp garments
in the machine's maw. Lofting overhead, perky ditties
matched by digital dings, proof my lively descendant
has learned to live with this dilemma: to protect
both ourselves and others, we lock into duty. We pass up
all public functions, pursue solitude, and latch the door.
